- If I have any wisdom, it's that when you're doing something, if it gives you energy, do more of it.
And if it sucks energy away from you, don't do that.
(clapperboard clicks) My name is Steve Rosenthal, and in three weeks I'll be 69 years old.
(upbeat jazzy music) I've been a filmmaker for the last 29 years.
My formal training is as a classical musician, and I was fortunate enough to be able to play in a quartet full-time for 25 years, touring and doing amazing things.
We have an opportunity to speak to people who are social animals, and we've been telling stories since the birth of language.
As a filmmaker, I have the rare opportunity to be able to say, "Okay, this bothers me," or, "This is something that is really good "that people need to know about."
I have the tools, and I can make a film.
Filmmaking is the art of telling stories through the use of lights and lenses, which doesn't sound very romantic at all, but when you're actually modifying and manipulating these things, it's quite exciting.
(upbeat jazzy music) Mentoring, it's how can I help somebody with some of the mistakes I've made, and what can I learn from each person that I'm mentoring that I wouldn't have known otherwise?
I think all of us look at the world and go, "There's some things "that are very good and wonderful," and there's some things that we wish were different.
I'm optimistic about life because we can still keep trying.
