We're so glad to have you here, because we are going to have lots of fun today with special friends.

We are going to talk about kindness.

You know how important it is to be kind right before our first friend comes over.

Let's learn the sign for kindness.

Remember, it’s cool to be kind.

I am very excited today, boys and girls, to introduce you to my new friend, Holly.

Holly has written a book and she loves animals just like me.

You have two dogs.

What are their names?

Seth and Dora I love that name.

They're such good names So one of the things that I’ve learned as it's better to have a really close friend than to have many, many different ones.

and have that friend supports you and makes you feel included.

And what's something that makes you feel included with your teachers or even with your families?

Everybody likes to help me like they dont leave me behind, they try to include me a lot.

I love that.

And I being left behind is so important and that just take a little extra time.

And I also had a hard time on the playground with friends that made fun of my voice and bullied me.

And what would you say if someone's not being nice to you I probably just say that's not nice.

Yes, you can always tell someone that's not nice.

How are you talking to me?

You can tell a teacher, or a parent And also, I think, say something to it.

Hurt people.

Hurt people.

That's a sign that people have experienced hate.

Hey, they say things that aren't so nice or what makes your day really special?

What if something that would include you on the playground?

Oh, my best friend likes to so there’s like, flowers around in the field And sometimes instead of playing on the playground, we spend time picking flowers What makes it really fun that if even if people are mean to me, my friends, Are always like they're like, defending me sometimes people are mean to me and they like thats not nice Yes.

Good friends are so great.

It is cool to be kind.

I just came to play with me and tell me what's your favorite thing to play?

I like to play Dodgeball thats pretty fun I love to play that as well.

And what do you do?

Your favorite animal?

A horse.

Probably is a goat or a skunk.

Do you know the sign for a goat?

We both speak in sign language.

And what makes the same?

Oh, how we both have hearing aid And that we both think of us really?

Like, I don't know, like, cheery, happy, like we both have joy So we having hearing loss we have and then they have a real sense of joy.

And that's what makes us very is that we know we can help other people because of hearing loss I have hearing aids what color are yours pink.

Yes, that's my favorite color, though sometimes playing doesn't look the same.

But everyone, we all have different things that we love to play.

that help us feel included And what makes you special about being a little person?

What makes me special about being a little person is having my best friends being around me and helping me.

And one of my friends said, Stand up for me and I stand up for them.

And we just like to do stuff with each other and talk about a lot of different things or I just think that's one of the things I like.

I love knowing that the differences that we have we all have something that makes that different that's really beautiful and something to be celebrated.

And it's great to have your eyes open and to notice our friends that may be playing by themselves.

You are at the lunch table by themselves.

who maybe had a hard day What can we do to be kind to them?

How would you include someone to go sit by them?

To sit by them?

How would you include a friend if they're playing by himself and cause Nobody likes them.

And they thought that they're funny.

I could go sit by them.

If I sit by them, that's very important.

And to invite them to play.

And how would you guys want your friends?

But would you want your friends to understand that?

Both of you, what do you want them to understand about you?

I'll ask to be like, We're good friends.

We can help you as Holly.

What do you wish people understood about you?

I would say that even though I’m different I'm like, I still have like a lot of good qualities love that that is so important.

It is very cool to be kind.

Holly, why is it important to be nice to people?

Well, it's because if you want people to be nice to you you have to be nice to them if you want to be friends you have to be nice But is it important to be nice to people, to be kind to they cannot be sad, crying and you can be, too.

They can have fun.

Get some friends.

I love that it's so important to have friends and to have fun and that what you all say they alone So I would leave this game and go play with the other person.

That'd be great.

And all you have to do is say, Come play with me You know the sign for that you say do it with me Let's see.

Come play with me to come play with me.

That is so important.

But the easiest question we can ask someone to come play with me.

Do do.

What is your favorite thing to play with?

I really like to do hoops and also do jump ropes with my friends and other kids who like to do the stuff that I do and how do your friends, you mak sure you can play with them.

well, usually they'll ask me if I'm okay and if they would like to play something with me or I would like to play something, then that is wonderful.

That is so important.

Thank you guys for sharing how we can be kind to each other Reagan You see someone being mean, bulling someone?

What do you do?

I would probably like go to the person who is being bullied and like help them out, give them like encouraging words or ask them what happened and then to the person that was bullying them, say, Hey, that wasn't nice.

Why would you do that?

And if I see it happen again, then go get a teacher or an adult or something like that.

That’s perfect So first your checking on your friends then then your telling the person whos bullying to stop that Just don't do that.

And then you're telling an adult and have you ever experienced something like that.

Yeah that why why did it make me feel like it made me feel like I wasn't important.

Like I shouldn't have like I shouldn't have been there And like, that's really hard.

And I don't know what that person has gone through, but we can't control what they do.

They can control how we respond, which is standing up there.

So.

And what but when did that situation change?

When did that person stop?

Did you have to tell someone or probably whenever like somebody was like an adult told them to stop and they had to like at Consequences happen to them?

Yeah, yeah, that happened.

And its ok we want people to grow sometimes if they are being mean We need them to learn and become better.

People also.

and Hank thats his job Hank has a job and being my ears and Hank wants all of us to go see his friend Buttons you guys want to meet Buttons Buttons has a friend named Brodie who had a very hard day and so we're all going to help Brodie figure out how to make friends Does that sound like a plan?

Is everything okay?

Well, some kids in the playground weren't very nice to me today.

I don't want to be their friend anymore.

Oh, no.

I'm so sorry that happened.

But you know what?

Sometimes being kind is the right choice.

Even when other kids are unkind to you because you never know what's going on in their lives.

Maybe someone was mean to them, or maybe they just had a bad day.

And sometimes being kind just helps the grouchy to go away.

What kinds of things do you think you could do to help them feel happier and to just be kind to them?

I guess I could smile and ask if I can play.

That's a great idea.

Brodie You know what?

One time when I was your age, the other little clowns, they weren't very nice to me.

They really weren't.

They were making fun of my hair because it stuck up.

They were making fun of my big feet, and they were making fun of my socks because they never match.

But you know what I decided?

I decided that I was going to be nice to them anyway.

And the next day I went over to them and I said, Hey, I want to play.

And you know what they said, Yes, you showed kindness to them by trying to be their friend, even when they weren't very nice.

Didn't you, Buttons?

I sure did.

And you know what?

We had so much fun that day.

We laugh and we played and we chased and we just had a really good time.

And at the end of the day, they said that they were happy that I played with them.

Hmm.

Maybe I could try that.

It would be better to have more friends.

That would mean more fun.

That's right.

Brodie, What else do you think you could do to be kind?

Well, if someone drops something, I could pick it up.

Or if they forgot their lunch, I could share.

Those are really good ideas, Brodie.

I can't wait to see how your acts of kindness make someone else's day better.

But you know what?

It's always nice to be kind to you.

And now, kids, I want to do a magic trick for you.

Hey, Brodie would you like to hang out with Emma Faye for a bit while I do a magic trick?

Come here Brodie Okay, This is called the kindness ropes.

I have three small ropes.

The red one stands for helping others.

The white one stands for being truthful and honest, and the blue one stands for supporting other people when they're having a hard time.

But you know what?

These three little ropes, they can't do much and they're not very strong by themselves.

But what if we decided to make one long rope and I did this and I tied this one together?

And then what if I did this and I tied this one together?

Then I would have one rope.

But it's still not very strong because you see, those knots are still there.

And if someone's mean, then those could come undone.

But when you practice kindness and you're nice to the people around you, then that kindness is like magic.

When you pull that magic out of your pocket that you sprinkle with over the rope, so you get one long rope.

That was amazing.

So magical.

And then there I talk about being kind to animals, Right Hank speak You're going to talk about being kind to animals.

I'm so happy to talk about being kind to animals.

Now we all know who Hank is, but we have special pets at home, and we meet animals every day at a friend's house.

So talk about what?

Something that's important to take care of.

Animal.

Oh, well, there's lots of things that are very important when we're taking care of animals.

I have two dogs of my self at home and their names are Lady and Bear.

What I always do is make sure they always have their collars and their identification on them so that way we can know who they are.

Hank has that exactly just like that.

I have both of those on my dogs too.

But it's something important when it's hot outside or if they're by themselves, what are things that we can do?

Yeah.

So whenever it's hot outside, it's super important that we're making sure they have plenty of water and they have shaded areas to keeping them enriched with toys is also really awesome that we can provide for our dogs Hank’s favorite toy he has a lamb.

He loves treats and he's a very hard working dog, but something that everyone needs to know about working with.

a service dog verses as a pet.

That's a great question.

So when a service dog like Hank is wearing their vest, it's imperative that we ask the owner if we can pet or interact with them before we go up to them.

Luckily, when Hank is out of his house, that's when he can receive pets and he can play.

That's perfect for people with service dogs, so working with they have a disability and that dog has a very important job to keep them safe.

So if you see Hank and I walking, he's keeping me safe from sounds like if a car is backing out, what if I drop my keys or if there's an alarm So if people pet Hank he gets distracted from his job, but once his vest is off As we all know he can play.

And that's something that you guys have questions.

Do you have questions about being kind to animals?

That's your question.

Probably when they haven't got pets, that is, nobody likes him.

Maybe you could pet them.

That animal got lonely too.

Do you guys have a way that you show kindness to your dogs at home?

Me and my sister, um, we come in and our dog is always jumping on it.

And, um, he's really excited to see us when he comes home.

Yeah, my dogs do the same thing, so I show kindness to them by taking them outside on walks.

And I always make sure I'm keeping them on a leash because they love going outside.

That's one way that I can be kind to them.

How do you how do you take care of your animals?

Oh, well, every night we feed them yes, they have to be fed about you.

Oh, Every night I take them outside.

You can get some shade because they're inside.

They get cold outside and run.

And then when they're back inside, I feed them.

And then they got inside and then they just stay and then they go to sleep.

Do you cut all animals and give them lots of kisses and pets?

Yes.

What about you, Holly?

How do you love on the animal?

And I.

Well, I have a pet bird.

I give him toys and I feed him and he likes to come out of the cage and sit on my arm.

So I give him pets what color is your bird?

Orange, yellow and gray.

That's so fun.

What about you?

How do you show love to animals?

Every time I walk through the door whenever I get home, they like to just come and start to crawl by the door.

So I like to just pet um and giv some give them lots of hugs.

And sometimes I help by feeding them.

What can we do when the dogs are barking a lot?

Because sometimes that can get annoying.

Oh well, it's definitely helpful to see what are they barking at?

Are they barking at you because they want attention, they want some playtime, or do they need to go out and use the bathroom?

Or maybe there's a nearby animal.

So if it's play, let's take them out.

Let's go run.

That's the bathroom.

Let's go outside as well.

Another way that we can be taking care of our pets is by grooming, such as giving them baths, taking care of their nails, and even just brushing them with a brush on their backs.

What the best thing to feed if you have a dog?

That's a great question.

So it's important that we're giving a dog food that is appropriate for the dog's size and age, such as puppy food or adult food.

should we walk our dogs on the pavement when it’s hot?

We want to walk when it's cooler outside because we don't want their palls to be too hot on the pavement.

Or you can use the grass as well.

I would like to know the sign for kindness so we can all learn how to show kindness to our animals and friends.
