Magic> Huh Auntie?
That's a big dream.
Dr. Strong> Yes and No.
Is it really big if it's realistic?
And what's big to some is still small to others.
Magic> I don't get that.
Dr. Strong> Well, less than 1% of boys playing on league teams make it to the NFL.
♪ I believe in you.
I'm your biggest cheerleader.
But even with your talent, there's a 99% chance you may not make it and then what?
And if you do make it pro, is that all you want?
You have to think big.
Like, do you want to be a Pro bowler?
Do you want to be drafted, number one, or do you just want to win one Super Bowl?
Magic> No, I want to win a bunch, like <Both> Tom Brady.
Dr. Strong> That's a big dream.
♪ Oh.
No.
Magic> What's wrong?
Dr. Strong> Benchmark scores are in and our school is still ranked last at 30.
I was hoping we'd at least be 29.
♪ (lights buzz) ♪ Magic> What's up pack?
Don't you guys agree that adults can have it twisted sometimes?
Auntie wants me to think big, But she only wanted to be 29 out of 30.
Isn't that thinking small?
I've learned sometimes they want us to do what they say, not what they do.
How can I think big or small when most of my life everything I thought of never works out Reva> Pst, pst, pst.
Magic, Magic.
Rex> It's Mr. Gray.
Reva> We got to go.
Magic> So auntie, I'm going to get going.
Dr. Strong> Rex and Reva I see you all.

You guys get to class.
(upbeat music begins) Magic> So Auntie, is wanting to be 29th the biggest you could think of?
♪ I'm just saying... ♪ Dr. Strong> And stop messing with your clothes You look fine.
♪ Magic> We get our test back today and I know I didn't do good.
Every time I do well in one subject, another gets harder.
I think small cause it's safe.
Rex> Come look.
He's at it again.
(foreboding music) <All> Ewww.
Rex> It's so gooey.
(bubbling) Mr. Jackson> Ooooh, I got him this time.
Ooooh, I got him.

Ooooh I got him this time.
♪ Strong, Strong Come in Strong, quick!

Rex> Janitor J, what's up yo?
Mr. Jackson> Where, where, where did it go?
Don't you "Sir" me!
Reva> 10-4!
Rex> Hut Mr. Jackson> You know, I'm.
I'm on to y'all and that Mr. Gray.
♪ Magic> Mr. Gray.
It's just us.
Open up!
(Bubbling) Mr. Gray> Uggh!
I got to get this magic trick down.
(Bubbling) (Snap) (silence) Let's call, Strong.
Yeah Mm hmm.
(soft music) ♪ Dr. Strong> Why are you doing this to me?
Mr. Gray> Oh, I got an email from Vegas.
I could possibly be getting my old job back if I bring better tricks.
Dr. Strong> You're teaching.
You can't leave.
Mr. Gray> If I get a show.
I told you, I am out.
Besides, the students are good.
Dr. Strong> They didn't pass their geography tests.
Mr. Gray> Well, geography isn't the easiest thing for me either.
Dr. Strong> I bet you know how to get from South Carolina to Vegas.

♪ Mr. Gray> I bet I do, too.
♪ Mr. Gray> Welcome, welcome, welcome.

Hopefully you've had breakfast.
Magic> Mr. Gray, what's going on?
Mr. Gray> What do you mean, what's going on?
Rex> I heard you and Dr. Strong.
♪ Mr. Gray> Uhhh You shouldn't have been listening to adult conversations.
Magic> We were worried about you, sir.
Reva> Don't call him, sir.
Call him Mr. Vegas.
He's the one ready to jet.
Mr. Gray> Uh... Magic> Pack?
I know Mr. Gray says he cares, but I still don't believe him.
Adults let us kids down sometimes.
And when they do, it hurts.
(indistinct quiet conversations) Mr. Jackson> N...now, I saw that our school is still ranked the lowest in testing.
Now, now if you going to help these children, that Mr. Black, Blue, Orange Purple.
Dr. Strong> Gray.
Mr. Jackson> Yeah, yeah.
Him.
He's not the answer.
(soft music) Dr. Strong> Everyone knows were ranked last trying something innovative was my way up but that's not even working.
Ms. Hill> Soon enough, this is going to feel like a small hill.
Everything is going to work out.
Just watch.
♪ Mr. Gray> Hmmm.
(music fades) (wind sounds) (maniacal laughing) Reva> Please do it again.
Mr. Gray> No, No work.
No play.
I'm not teaching students that do not want to be taught.
Magic> We're ready to learn, but you're leaving.
So, go work on your magic.
Mr. Gray> Oh, I'm always working on me.

And as you know, folks give up on them all the time.
They finally let their walls down with you and what, you just bulldoze right over them?
Mr. Gray> You know, I care.
Dr. Strong> Oh, I know, I know.
Just like I know those kids are really, really smart.
Honestly, too smart for their own ten year old selves.
Not even a magician can fool them.
They know when your focus is elsewhere.
Where's your class anyway?
Mr. Gray> The media center.
♪ soft music ♪ Dr. Strong> Will.
♪ Ms. Hill> I think I've got just the thing.
♪ Hey guys, what's up?
♪ Look, I know we all have bad days, and sometimes we just want to run away.
Take it from a wise woman.
If you read a good book those bad feelings will go away.
You'll feel a lot better.
♪ Dr. Strong> Your teaching mojo doesn't come from your magic tricks.
It comes from your heart.

(school bell rings) ♪ Duke> I'm tired of Magic Think he cool and run the school.
He need to fix his whack style, dress like we wear uniforms.
He look dumb, dumb, and dummy.
Joy> Hey, you shouldn't say that.
If you can't say anything nice about anyone, just don't say anything at all.
Cade> Yeah, Don't pick on people, bro.
Duke> Why not?
The truth is the truth?
And besides he can't shut me up.
(snap) (quick footsteps) (laughs) Mr. Gray> All right, let's go.
Reva> What is Duke's issue?
Magic> Everything!
Reva> One of the days I am going to fight him.
Magic> I know I want to.
He deserves it.
Mr. Gray> Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Fighting is not the answer.
Magic> So people should just walk over us?
Rex> Who's walking over who?
Mr. Gray> Wait a minute.
I saw a little.
What happened?
Reva> Duke made fun of Magic's clothes.
Magic> It's alright.
Reva> It's not fine.
You're sad about it.
Rex> He was talking about your fit?
Mr. Gray> Prep is cool.
We can make it cooler with art time.
(knocking) (knocking back) (laughs) (maniacal laugh) Aahhh!
♪ soft music ♪ Magic> This is Dawn Staley!
Reva> Who?
Magic> One of the greatest basketball coaches ever.
My mom loves her!
Mr. Gray> A boss lady for sure.
Reva> Oh, for real.
(rip) Magic> It's torn!
Mr. Gray> Don't worry.
We can make more.
A fix can be done.
♪ Making old is new is a ton of fun.
So with a rip and a zip and a "show-nuff" spin, we're going to take our creativity and win.
So don't settle for what you see.

(Inhales) Yaaaahhhh!
♪ (maniacal laughing) ♪ Woo hoo!
♪ (maniacal laughing) Reva> I got to put this one up so it doesn't get messed up.
Mr. Gray> Yeah.
Grab your books, All of you put them up.
Rex> Oh, this is nice.
(hip hop music plays) Reva> I got to get my work done, so I... can be somebody big!
Rex> Then you can hire me to fly you in my private jet.
Reva> You?
Flying a private jet?
I want to believe it but... Mr. Gray> There ain't no buts!
Believe it and see it ♪ (wind whistling) ♪ Rex> I'm a Pilot!
And I knew I would be!
Mr. Gray> If you believe, it can happen!
(laughing) Reva> Magic, are you scared of heights?
Magic> No.
Reva> Then come on!
Magic> Y'all go.
Reva> You don't have to be afraid, I'm here.
♪ Dr. Strong> I don't think I'm cut out for this job.
Ms. Hill> Wha-?
Why are you thinking like that?
Everyday, I watch you give 1,000% for these students, teachers and parents.
Dr. Strong> Yeah, but it's not enough.
That's not enough.
Heck, Mr. Gray is even talking about leaving.
Ms. Hill> Um mm!
Dr. Strong> Uh huh, girl yes.
On top of everything he's saying, he's unsure about teaching and the kids are just getting to love him.
Ms. Hill> You know, I'm going to say it, right?
Dr. Strong> Yeah.
Ms. Hill> You have got to think positive.
Dr. Strong> Ugh.
Ms. Hill> You're the role model here.
You know what, I think Mr. Gray soon enough is going to realize he's in the right spot.
I can feel it.

It's going to be okay.
♪ Rex> Magic.
My dad says you win some, you lose some.
Some get rained out.
Some end in a draw.
Magic> What, Rex?
Rex> Never mind.
It sounded better in my head.
But, dude, don't be scared.
Magic> I'm not.
Rex> You are.
Magic> I am not.
Rex> Then come on!
♪ Magic> Okay, Pack.
I'm scared of heights.
Every time I think of going up, my hands get sweaty and I think I'm falling right back down.
Anybody out there understand?
Mr. Gray> Come on, Magic.
(Magic gasping) Magic Strong.
Don't think about falling.
Think about flying.
Magic> Mr. Gray.
You won't convince me.
Do I have to do everything they do?
Mr. Gray> You don't.
But flying is a fun experience.
Everybody's scared of something, right?
I'm scared that I might not be the best magician that ever lived.
Reva> But if you become the best, you'll leave us behind.
Mr. Gray> Whether I am here or there, I will always, always, always, always care.
Real talk!
Teachers are human.
We have stuff that's bugging us too, and none of us needs to quit.
Rex, if you want to fly.
Fly.
Reva, If you want to be a boss lady, be a boss.
And Magic, if you don't want to fly, stand firm on the ground.
And if I want to create a great magic trick Then I have to keep trying.
And work at it, try working, working, try.
♪ Dr. Strong> Just one second.
Mr. Jackson> Going to be gone in a second.
W...we got to get in this room.

You know, we're almost flying high, going through the latitude longitude test.

Dr. Strong> Oh, good.
I knew you could get them to understand the work.
Mr. Gray> Yeah.

Dr. Strong> Goodbye.
(door closes) Mr. Gray> What!
We about to fly.
Reva> Sweet then let's go!
Mr. Gray> Okay, real quick.
We got to get back.
Rex> Magic.
I got it now.
Magic> Got what?
Rex> When I told you that, you win some.
You lose some.

Well, I think the point is, no matter what, you've got to show up.
Magic> I hear you.
But when I fly, I might think about my mom.
I hate that she's not with me.
Rex> Or you might love it.
And I think that she'll be proud of you, don't you?

Mr. Gray> Up, up and away!
(laughs) Let's go.
Reva> Yeah, boy.
Mr. Gray> Yeah boyyyy.
♪ We are now flying Flight 21-40, going to nowhere, but going everywhere.
What do you say there, Co-captain?
What do you say Co-pilot?
Rex> I don't know.
We flying!
(Mr. Gray laughs) Mr. Gray> Up, up and away.
(screams and laughs) Rex> We're thinking BIG!
Mr. Gray> Yes Sir, Yes Sir!
Here we go.
♪ Ready?
Plane Yes Sirrrrr!
♪ Okay, we're going to land.
Here we go.
♪ You got it?
Rex> Can we go again?
Mr. Gray> Dr. Strong will be back at our class.
We better beat her there.
(snapping) I think it won't work unless you tell me what you learned.
Rex> I learned that, even if I'm the only one that believes in my dreams, it can happen.
Reva> I learned that I can't let my failing grades or my attitude, or you leaving, get to me.
If I'm going to go far, I must think positive.
Mr. Gray> Mr. Strong?
Magic> Mm um.
Mr. Gray> Mm um?
Mm.
(snaps) (whooshing) (maniacal laughing) (hip hop music) ♪ Dawn Staley> Hey, what's up, Magic?
Magic> Coach Staley?!
Wait, wait, wait.
My mom would be fired up right now.
And we just made hoodies of you in our class.
Dawn Staley> Ho...hold, Magic.
I just want you to know this.
You always have to have a champion mindset and always think big.
Your thinking is your biggest obstacle.
Once you overcome that, you're going to be unstoppable.
Magic> You think?
Dawn Staley> I know!
I remember when I wanted to be a WNBA player, I only thought about "it" happening.
So that positive mindset is all I thought about.
And guess what?
It happened for me.
So...I want you to think positively in everything that you do and not just be good.
Be your very best in school.
You with me?
Magic> I'm with you.
(swooshing) (snap) Magic> That was WILD!
Rex> What was wild?
Reva> It's wild you haven't answered Mr. Gray.
Mr. Gray> Magic, what did you learn?
Magic> I learned a lot.
Like, if you think you can't, you probably won't.
So you got to keep trying.
You might surprise yourself.
So that's why I work harder than I ever have (laughing) Mr. Gray> Back to class.
(swooshing) (snap) (keys jingle) (laughing) Dr. Strong> Is everything all right?
Mr. Gray> Yeah...everything's fine.
Ms. Hill> Okay because we heard something on our way to lunch, but if everything's fine, then we'll let you get back to work.

Mr. Jackson> Something going on in here.

Ms. Hill> Janitor Jackson!
You're thinking too hard again Mr. Jackson> What you talking about thinking?
Ain't nobody thinking too hard!

Rex> Nothing's on the board!
(snap) (swooshing) Mr. Gray> Thank you, Ms. Hill Uh, Dr. Strong.
Dr. Strong> Yes?
Mr. Gray> Can I speak to you for a moment?
Dr. Strong> Sure.
Mr. Gray> You good?
Dr. Strong> Yeah.
The superintendent is on his way.
Mr. Gray> Oh.
Well, think positive.
The worst that can happen is he gives you the boot.
And I'm here to tell you if the rug gets pulled out from under you, you'll float on an even more magical one.
Dr. Strong> Oh, I listen to you.
Are you floating on a teaching cloud today?
Have you found your place here with us?
You've realized you're supposed to be here with us?
Mr. Gray> Floating.
Flying, something like that.
Well, you know, I care about them.
Not sure how long I'm going to be here, though.
Dr. Strong> You ain't going anywhere.
Mr. Gray> Ditto on that.
I mean, you're a phenomenal principal.
So, go and tell him all the great things that you have for the school.
♪ Mr. Gray> Yeah!
Magic> Auntie, Auntie!
Mr. Gray> Ma-Magic!
♪ Dr. Strong> And what are you doing in this hall?
Magic> I had to check on my Auntie.
Dr. Strong> That's my job to take care of you.
Magic> Can't we take care of each other?
Dr. Strong> Yes.
But, don't worry.
I'm good.
I'm good.
So, have you thought of a second career yet?
Magic> Yes, ma'am.
If I can't play on an NFL team, then I want to own it.
Dr. Strong> Nice.
That is a big dream.
Well, if that's what you want, you better get back in there and get to work.
Because education leads to money.
You're going to need a lot of that to buy a team.
I'm going to go see my boss.
Magic> What are you going to say?
Dr. Strong> I'm going to tell him that we are not going to be 29 and we are not going to be number 19, but we are going to be number one.
Yeah?

Even when things go wrong.
Don't be afraid to set them right.
What's the magic point?
When you think big you always fly to someplace amazing, right?
