Science Trek
Science Trek is a place where parents, kids, and educators can watch short, educational videos on a variety of science topics. Every Monday Science Trek releases a new video that introduces children to math, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career potentials in a fun, informative way.(Science Trek music) Joan Cartan-Hansen, Host: Television has been a part of history ever since it was invented.
Philo T. Farnsworth was plowing a potato field in Idaho in 1921 when he first came up with the idea for his electronic television.
Franklin Roosevelt was the first president to appear on television at the World's Fair in 1939.
The first televisions were black and white.
In 1946, there were only six thousand televisions in use.
But by 1955, half of all American homes had one.
Color televisions were introduced in 1964 and PBS was first launched in 1967.
When the Apollo 11 astronauts walked on the moon in 1969, their first steps were televised.
Astronaut Neil Armstrong first deployed a television camera and then climbed down the ladder.
Video on demand or streaming started in the 1990s and in 2023, 197 million television sets were sold around the world, Making Philo T. Farnsworth's idea one of the most successful inventions ever.
