The American Rabbit Breeders Association recognizes 52 different breeds.
And they come in all shapes and sizes.
The smallest domesticated rabbit is the Netherland Dwarf.
It weighs between two and a half and five pounds.
The largest is the Flemish Giant.
They are about three feet long and weigh about 25 pounds.
The Holland Lop is the most popular breed.
It comes in more than 30 colors and is famous for its floppy ears.
Lionhead bunnies have long manes around their heads.
My bunny, Smokey, is a mini rex.
He has wonderful velvet-like fur.
Dutch rabbits have distinctive black and white markings.
And despite their name, this breed was developed in England in the 1830s.
Rabbits are the third most popular type of pet.
A domesticated rabbit lives between 10 and 12 years.
Rabbits eat hay, greens, a special pellet.
And because rabbits are herbivores, their poo is compostable.
