Southwest Research Institute has a state-of-the-art Ocean Simulation Lab and a Marine & Offshore Systems Section. Work includes research and testing since the 1960s on the ALVIN submarine, the oldest submersible deep-ocean research vessel. Recent work includes design and maintenance of a titanium personnel sphere for ALVIN upgrades.
