Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(upbeat music) - So Al Weaver's directing an episode this series.
I don't know where he got that idea from.
(music drowns out Al's muffled directions) - You can serve it out, you know.
- Great, yeah, alright so- - It's fascinating.
It makes me think about how I would've been for people, you know, actor Tom versus director Tom.
Because actor Al and director Al are very different people.
(Al chuckles) - It terrifies me.
I've got a real sort of gratitude for like, the people that are behind the scenes.
The prep and the organization and everything that goes into it is just insane.
- It was brilliant, having Al as director.
He's detailed, he's thorough.
I hope he does more.
- It's so nice when you know someone of many years and work with him as an actor, to then see them directing.
- I think 'cause he's such a brilliant actor his notes are great.
- He's got this way of talking to you as another actor where he really knows how to get it out of you.
- Al, who's seen these Larry moments for seasons and seasons- - Can't keep up with a few young ladies, boss?
(group laughs) - He's like, "Just go full Larry."
He's like, "Don't, don't hold back on Larry."
He's like, "Just go full Larry."
(Bradley chuckles softly) - So we've let our only suspect go?
- Because she had nothing to do with it, Larry.
- Al just constructs a scene as an actor beautifully.
So he understands the timing of how a lens would work alongside.
- You can come in on action where I hold- (Al's directions muffled) - Okay, 3, 2, 1, action.
- When you think about directing, you kind of think, "Well what kind of person do I wanna be?
What kind of director do I wanna be?"
And yeah, I feel quite responsible.
I sort of come in with energy and you know, be prepared and be open to things and, but have a plan.
- What I think Al has done with episode three, is create something really aesthetically beautiful.
I think the story telling in it is gorgeous.
- He's great.
I think his episode is gonna be brilliant and then you can tell he's always wanted to direct.
- He was really good as you would expect, really.
- We love Al and I enjoy every single scene I do with him.
- And it's lovely he's been given this opportunity.
- It adds to the feeling of creativity and collaboration, which is like, always the best thing.
(glasses clink) - It's fascinating to watch and just fun, just really fun.
- It's nice that you've got these people there that are supporting you and I'm really, really happy that I've got a chance to do this.
